When it comes to snoring cures, you may be a little confused as to what you can do for your newborn. Some experts dub them as noisy newborns but the truth is, it is normally just something that your child will grow out of.
Young babies are loud breathers in general, and this is simply because their airways are very narrow and also packed with lots of secretions. Because of this, they are forced to breathe a lot harder, which in turn vibrates the soft tissue – causing the baby to snore.
In many cases, the noise disappears as the baby’s airways grow and he/she learns to swallow the excess saliva.
If you are looking for snoring information or tips that you could use to help your little one in the meantime, then you are in luck:
- Keep things clear: If your baby has a stuffy nose, chat to a pharmacist to get a saline nasal spray for your child, which will assist in clearing things up. You then use a nasal aspirator to gently suck out the secretions that are causing the congestion.
- Clean with steam: Stand in a warm shower or bathroom with your baby so that the steam can act as a humidifier. Do this just before putting your child to bed so that the airways are nice and clean. You could also run a warm-mist vaporizer in the baby’s bedroom to ensure that their airways remain clear throughout the night.
- Watch out for allergens: It is best to ensure that your baby’s room is free of things that collect dust. Animal hair and other such allergens will continuously cause their airways to block up.
Keep an eye on your baby’s snoring, and as they grow the noises should change, up until a point where it almost sounds like gurgling (usually just before teething).
If you find that your baby’s snoring persists, or gets worse when they are older, you should look for a snoring cure by visiting a health professional.
